Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at prodrivesafety@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

1) as little as possible but no more than 15 minutes.. because idling a diesel engine causes accelerated wear and shortens the engines life

2) Idling over three minutes is against the law in most states with fines ranging from $300 to $10,000 (Vegas) depending on the city , Federal  law allows 15 minute warm up or A/C cool down of the interior and specifically states" idling not allowed solely for the comfort of the driver on layovers. Look up bus idling laws by state. Employers are not responsible for Idling fines as tickets are written to the driver.

Am I responsible for tire pressures and defects ?

DOT regulations state that during the pre trip the driver will check tire pressure with a tire gage and insure the tire tread and sidewall is not deteriorated or damaged. Although most mechanics do a good job maintaining your bus they are NOT responsible for any tire failure resulting from low pressure,, If a tire is ever run with low pressure it must be removed and destroyed because of internal damage which may not immediately appear but will some day result in a tread separation , blow out or fire!

Wat if my bus is equipped with TPMS

?TPMS have been found to be inaccurate from five to ten pounds and drivers are still responsible for correct tire pressures.

Several buses burn each year because of low tire pressure,, If you have a tire fire evacuate all passengers and turn the engine and A/C system off immediately as blowers suck flames into the bus, your fire extinguisher will not extinguish a tire fire

What I need to know about pre and post trip inspections

Look ahead and identify the turn, is it  Normal or Wide turn?

Narrow turn means turning from a normal width lane into a narrow lane .and since this is a WIDE turn with the right side open,  extreem caution must be used

1 Identify the turn  before you get there

2. Signal early

3. Position bus parallel to the curb and as far from the curb as necessary to complete the turn , distances vary from 4 ft to 6 feet depending on the width of the street or driveway you are turning into, Unlike semi's  Buses do not bend

REMEMBER, this is a prescribed lawful

procedure as long as you do not cause an accident so it is" your" responsibility to work with traffic through signals be prepared to STOP at any point if necessary.

4, Now that you have safely claimed your space and are AWARE of traffic and pedestrians around you, drive straight to the end of curb on your right  and when you reach the turning point

4.   FRONT WHEEL "Under

    the first passenger seat" is

perpendicular to the end of  curb

5. Check right mirror for vehicles people,

    bicycles  scooters and

6. BE prepared to STOP!!! if any vehicle

or person has appeared on your right

    side

7. If all clear, turn steering wheel in a smooth steady motion full right and hold, do not stop

8 execute turn slowly

9. Check left corner for clearance of

    stopped traffic

10 Check right rear wheel in mirror and make any corrections necessary to avoid hitting curb....If properly set up bus should come back into your lane.

11. Its important that this maneuver be made S L O W for passenger comfort and to avoid tire front tire creep

to the left in the middle of the turn  and to be able to STOP if any danger is noticed
